Samsung recently announced the launch of its new Odyssey 3D monitor, a screen innovation that delivers an immersive 3D experience without the need for special glasses. This technology, presented on the Samsung Newsroom, uses technical advances to transform 2D content into realistic 3D images.
Glasses-free 3D technology
This Odyssey 3D display is based on Light Field Display (LFD) technology, which creates 3D images from 2D content using a lenticular lens placed on the front panel. This technology is combined with an Eye Tracking and View Mapping system, which adjusts images in real time to optimize depth perception according to the user’s eye movements.
Eye Tracking is performed by an integrated stereo camera that monitors the movement of both eyes, while View Mapping continuously adjusts the image to deliver a consistent, immersive 3D experience.
Technical specifications
For those who don’t want to use the 3D function all the time, Samsung has integrated an option for easy switching between 2D and 3D modes, offering flexibility of use according to user preference.
In terms of specifications, the Odyssey 3D will be available in two screen sizes, 27 inches and 37 inches, with 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 165 Hz, making it a high-performance monitor even without 3D functionality.
Presentation at Gamescom
Visitors to this year’s Gamescom have the chance to preview the Odyssey 3D on the Samsung stand.
