Apple has quietly extended the time customers have to renew an expired AppleCare+ warranty, from 30 to 45 days.
Traditionally, Apple offered a one-month grace period for customers to extend their AppleCare+ coverage after it expired. Now, according to the AppleCare+ support page, customers in certain countries, including France, have up to 45 days after the end of their initial coverage to purchase new protection.
Apple Care+ renewal conditions
This extended renewal period is subject to certain conditions. Customers who have prepaid their original AppleCare+ coverage for an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch may be eligible for annual or monthly renewal. However, coverage for Macs may be limited to annual renewals. To check eligibility, Apple recommends that customers visit mysupport.apple.com.
In which countries?
The 45-day period applies only in certain countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. For mainland China, however, the deadline remains 30 days.
AppleCare+: the best possible protection
AppleCare+ is a more extensive version of Apple’ s basic coverage. All Apple devices benefit from a one-year limited warranty and 90 days of technical support. In Europe, we benefit from a two-year warranty: one year by the manufacturer, the second year by the vendor. However, AppleCare+ for the iPhone, for example, covers incidents of accidental damage on an unlimited basis (with a deductible charge), offers an express replacement service, and gives 24/7 priority access to telephone or chat support.
In 2022, Apple enhanced this service from two accidental incidents per year to unlimited. The current cost of AppleCare+ for an iPhone 15 Pro is €229 for two years or €11.99 per month for one year. The AppleCare+ with theft and loss protection option adds two replacement incidents in the event of loss or theft, and costs an additional €70 for the two-year coverage.
This extended renewal period gives customers greater flexibility to extend their AppleCare+ protection and continue to benefit from the associated services.
