The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 are high-end Bluetooth True Wireless headphones that quickly demonstrate their superiority over many competitors. With the AirPods Max in their sights, and other high-end headphones as well, they’re here to mark the historic manufacturer’s place in the premium market.
Momentum True Wireless 4 design
Aesthetically, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earphones are virtually identical in appearance to their predecessors, the Momentum True Wireless 2, once again sporting an oval shape and touch-sensitive surfaces. The main exterior change is the addition of three new hues: metallic silver, graphite, or the dazzling copper-black finish you see here. However, the interior of each earphone has been extensively modified. The antennas have been redesigned to enhance stability, while the earpieces now employ a technology called dynamic load switching, designed to improve the uniformity of sound quality. The earphone closest to your smartphone remains constantly connected to it, and they alternate during use to preserve the best possible sound quality. The transducers used in Momentum True Wireless 4 are similar to those used in the previous year’s Momentum True Wireless 3.A small change has also been made to the ear tips for 2024. They are now washable and feature a new plastic protector at the tip to keep ear tubes free of unwanted debris.Sennheiser’s now iconic fabric-wrapped charging case makes a return with the Momentum True Wireless 4, identical to the previous version, wireless and via USB-C charging are possible. We’ll look at some interesting new charging features later. However, I think it’s a shame that this charging case has a USB-C connector on the front. It’s simply a question of aesthetics, nothing really disturbing here, but on this type of box, I’d rather have a port on the back.

Momentum True Wireless 4 audio quality
Equipped with 7 mm-diameter drivers, these Momentum True Wireless 4 send out powerful, clearly limpid sound. It’s a real pleasure to listen to, both in terms of comfort (I’ll come back to this later) and listening experience.Bass is present, clear and pleasant, and the balance between midrange and treble is well balanced. With noise reduction activated, you can enjoy pleasant listening without having to push the headphones to maximum volume. The codecs supported are :
- SBC
- ACC
- AptX
- AptX Adaptive / Lossless
- LC3
It’s a shame they’re not compatible with Apple’s spatial audio, but the manufacturer reserves this feature for its own headphones. The frequency response of the speakers ranges from 5 Hz to 21,000 Hz, which is very decent.Equalizers can also be programmed, with the option of accentuating bass or with a podcast effect to lighten voices. Let’s also mention the microphones, of which there are three per earpiece, providing effective noise reduction that is very interesting for quality calls.
Active noise reduction
Like many other models, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 feature active noise reduction. This is aided by the headphones’ in-ear tips, which help to passively reduce ambient noise. I have to say, it works really well. Having tested them on trains and planes, I’m satisfied. Even so, they’re not the best noise reduction on the market. They outperform the Sennheiser Accentum Plus, which is certified as better noise reduction than the classic Sennheiser Accentum. At a much higher price, it’s conceivable that they’d be better, indeed. The headphones feature a number of noise reduction functions:
- Active reduction of all noise
- Anti-wind
- Transparency
Transparency mode is adjustable, with several levels of intensity. It is also possible to pause music when transparency mode is activated, but this feature can be disabled.
Momentum True Wireless 4 comfort
I’m not a big fan of in-ear headphones. I use AirPods and Sennheiser Accentum Plus headphones on a daily basis, so there’s nothing really in-ear about them, but these headphones aren’t unpleasant at all! For someone like me, who has always sworn by non-in-ear headphones, on top-of-the-range products, they’re really pleasant. What’s more, the noise reduction contributes greatly to their appreciation, as it’s quite effective and makes listening even more interesting. The Momentum True Wireless 4 can also be operated via touch controls, which makes life much easier, and means you don’t have to take out your smartphone every time. Everything is configurable in the app, but by default here’s how it works:
- On the left earpiece:
- Tap once to play/pause the track
- Tap twice to skip to the next track
- Tap 3 times to launch the smartphone’s voice assistant
- Hold to decrease volume
- On the right earpiece :
- Tap once to activate transparency mode
- Tap twice to return to the previous track
- Tap 3 times to activate active noise reduction
- Hold to increase volume
Finally, when on a call, a single tap picks up the handset and mutes or unmutes the microphone, while a double tap rejects the call or hangs up.The application also lets you perform a “Fit Test”, to check that the earphones are correctly positioned and, above all, fitted with the right tips. We remind you that Momentum True Wireless 4 are supplied with XS, S, M and L eartips.
Momentum True Wireless 4 battery life
The case is equipped with an 820 mAh battery, which is quite decent. Each earphone has its own 75 mAh battery, enabling listening for up to 7.5 hours without ANC and 7 hours with ANC activated, for a total autonomy of 30 hours. This is not extraordinary, although other references offer superior autonomy. It’s not dramatic, however, as we’re satisfied with very good autonomy here per headphone charge. The box also features wireless charging compatibility, which is a very good thing, however, this charge is limited to 2.5 watts.
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 review
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 are very good Bluetooth headphones. It’s fair to say that our short experience with the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 has been positive overall.
