The Ecovacs Winbot W2 Omni is a practical, self-contained window cleaning robot with a multifunctional storage station. The big advantage of this robot is the storage station, which means it doesn’t always have to be connected to the mains. The other big advantage is the device’s fairly moderate noise level, so let’s see what this Winbot W2 Omni is really worth.
Design and construction
After testing the Tineco Carpet One Spot carpet cleaner, I’m back with a window cleaning robot. It’s not the first window cleaning robot to be offered by Ecovacs, but the Winbot W2 Omni is devilishly interesting. Having tested the Hobot 2s a few years ago, I have to admit that I have a strong preference for the Ecovacs model. The design of the device is broadly similar, although the Ecovacs model is much more aesthetically simple. In fact, it’s housed in a base, unlike its competitor. First of all, let’s take a look at the look of the base in question. With its cubic shape that doesn’t quite form a perfect cube, this station is very practical. It stores the cord with the carabiner behind a trapdoor, as well as cloths and the base’s power cable. In fact, it’s this station that acts as the Winbot W2 Omni’s battery. On the front of the Winbot W2 Omni, you’ll find the power button, as well as 5 LEDs indicating the station’s battery level. Two buttons are also present on the left and right. One stores the cable in the station electrically, so don’t try to store it manually. The other allows you to change the cleaning mode quickly, although the app is very handy for managing this.A kind of small locket is available, allowing you to close the front part of the station completely. This pulls back to open the station, which has a magnetic closure.Once the station is open, you’ll find the Winbot W2 Omni, a window-cleaning robot with a super-sober look. On top, a single button to start cleaning. This is backed by a pleasing leatherette handle, with nozzles for spraying the cleaning product supplied by the manufacturer. This cleaning product, which can also be stored in the charging station, has been designed to be easy to use and all-in-one with this device. At first, the cleaning cloth is not installed on the robot; it has to be done manually. However, the cleaning cloth has two advantages. It can be reused many times, and changed direction if necessary.

Winbot W2 Omni cleaning performance
This is a window-cleaning robot, so let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: it’s not a rag and spray from Ajax. It’s not meant to be run once every 6 months, quite the contrary, it won’t remove deep, embedded dirt from the glass. What’s more, it’s not for everyone – not for all pockets, certainly, but also not for people whose windows are perfectly accessible. Apartment dwellers in particular, with double-glazed windows that can only be opened from the top, will be delighted, as is my case.Once you’ve understood this, you’re left with the obvious fact that it’s designed to clean recent and/or superficial marks. I have to say, it works really well. My only regret is still the amount of liquid deposited: I think it doesn’t spray enough, but that’s my opinion. The robot cleans the entire glass pane as well as the edges, and its side wheels and bumpers enable it, like a robot vacuum cleaner like the T20 Omni, to detect obstacles. As for the rollers, they enable it to roll along the edges of windows, so that you don’t miss any part of your tiles. In actual fact, cleaning the edges is a little inadequate for my taste; I’d appreciate wider cloths and, above all, a wider support surface. Otherwise, cleaning performance is satisfactory. Autonomy is around 1h30 to 1h45 according to my tests.
Ecovacs application
As with all the brand’s products, Ecovacs lets you control the Winbot W2 Omni with an app. This is essential, especially if you want to clean a hard-to-reach window such as the one mentioned above, in order to control the robot and make it go up
- Deep cleaning
- Intensive cleaning
- Quick clean
- Edge cleaning
These can also be set via the button on the station. In other words, the app isn’t essential, but it is handy for controlling everything with your smartphone. Last but not least, it is indispensable for bringing the Winbot W2 Omni to a suitable height for retrieval, if it has arrived at an inaccessible location.
Ecovacs Winbot W2 Omni review
Very interesting and devilishly useful in certain configurations, the Ecovacs Winbot W2 Omni is a device for washing windows on a regular basis. It’s easy to use, offers very decent cleaning performance and its storage station with integrated battery is a real asset. While it may seem cumbersome to carry around with you, at least it means you don’t have to plug the window cleaning robot in everywhere.
