At Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany, Nvidia and MediaTek have formalized a partnership to advance G-Sync technology. Introduced in 2013, Nvidia’s G-Sync technology initially synchronized refresh rates between monitors and graphics cards for a smooth gaming experience, but required a proprietary module that increased the cost of compatible monitors.
A new G-Sync standard since 2019
In 2019, Nvidia launched a new standard called G-Sync Compatible, which doesn’t require a hardware module. However, this simplified version does not include some of the high-end features available in the full version of G-Sync, such as ultra-low motion blur 2 (ULMB2), variable overdrive, or the Nvidia Reflex latency analyzer.
At Gamescom, Nvidia presented three new monitors that will be among the first to use G-Sync Pulsar technology: the Asus ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQNR, the Acer Predator XB273U F5, and the AOC AGON PRO AG276QSG2. These 27-inch displays offer a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a refresh rate of 360 Hz, and are HDR compatible, meeting the needs of the most demanding gamers.
Lower prices for G-Sync displays
New displays featuring G-Sync Pulsar technology are expected later this year. Although Nvidia has yet to announce exact prices, they will be more attractively priced than traditional G-Sync monitors with proprietary modules, which can fetch high prices. By way of comparison, the Asus PG27AQN, equipped with the G-Sync module, currently sells for almost 1,000 euros on Amazon.
More and more G-Sync-compatible displays on the market
With the introduction of these new displays, Nvidia continues to diversify its G-Sync technology offering to cater for different market segments. Gamers who favor features such as high refresh rates, resolution, and HDR support will now have more options at potentially more accessible prices.
This partnership between Nvidia and MediaTek marks another step in the evolution of G-Sync technology, paving the way for future innovations that could redefine the gaming experience for an even wider audience.
