The Lexar Silver Plus micro-SD is a small-format storage card, ideal in the 256 GB version sent to me, for drone or action-cam photography. Let’s see what it’s really worth in this full review.
Packaging and connectors
Packaging-wise, it’s still pretty straightforward, but here we note that the card comes with an adapter in classic SD format, which is a big plus for connecting it to more PCs/card readers. Indeed, self-respecting laptops generally have an SD port, not a micro-SD one, for example. Some others have a micro-SD connector, but it’s not very useful.
In terms of connectivity, this is a UHS-I card, of course, so it’s hard to fit two rows of connectors on such a small card. The certifications on the card are :
- SDXC: SD Extreme Capacity
- UHS-I: 1 single row of connectors
- U3: Guaranteed minimum 30 Mbit/s write speed
- V30: Guaranteed minimum 30 Mbit/s write speed
The Lexar Silver Pro micro-SD card is ideal for both action-cam and drone photography, and with its 256GB capacity, it’s perfect value for money.
Lexar Silver Plus Micro-SD specifications
Model | Lexar Silver Plus Micro-SD |
Card type | Micro-SD |
Standard | SDXC |
Speed class | U3, V30 |
Max. read speed | 205 MB/s |
Max. write speed | 150 MB/s |
Performance
To measure the card’s performance, I used my two usual software programs, CrystalDiskMark and ATTO Disk Benchmark. These are the two programs that provide reliable information on storage media throughput. Theoretical data rates are 205 MB/s read and 150 MB/s write, exactly the same as for the Silver Plus in SD format.
Data capacity | 16 Mb | 64 MB | 256 MB | 1 GB | 8 GB |
Reading speed | 207 Mb/s | 209 Mb/s | 209 MB/s | 209 Mb/s | 209 Mb/s |
Write speed | 190 MB/s | 192 MB/s | 193 MB/s | 193 MB/s | 193 MB/s |
Data rates are exactly the same as on previous SD cards tested by the manufacturer, so there’s little change there. Read speeds are always respected, and write speeds are well above promise, much to our delight.
As always, ATTO is a little stricter than CrystalDiskMark, but there’s nothing dramatic here, as is customary, and data rates remain very good in all cases.
Lexar Silver Plus Micro SD: Review
This micro-SD card performs well and is a good compromise between storage capacity and price for video enthusiasts, even in 4K, but not with too high a bitrate. Amateur dronists or extreme sports enthusiasts with their action-cam always with them will be delighted.
